The National Trust Workhouses project launched

Headland have launched a new touch screen
system for the National Trust.
The new project completed in August 2012 includes information,
data, plans and photography on over 1000 workhouses throughout the
UK.
The project was commissioned by The Workhouse, in
Southwell, Nottinghamshire, which is currently celebrating its
10th anniversary and its 400,000th
visitor.
The touchscreen kiosk has been designed and developed by
Headland, using research collected over a number of years, by
respected historian Peter Higginbotham.
"Incorporating National Trust brand guidelines, Headland's well
executed design and navigation, allows visitors to search the
system and find workhouses in towns and cities throughout the UK"
says project director Ken Heptonstall. "Whilst the system is a
stand alone project our build method was to allow for further
development on mobile and tablet - which would allow much wider
access to this unique and historical data."
The Workhouses project shows how society dealt with poverty
through the centuries. It also allows users to access much wider
information on hundreds of other workhouses throughout the UK.
